Contact Gov. Northam to stop VA police violence

In the wake of the appalling police violence recently used on Army Second Lieutenant Caron Nazario in Windsor, VA, the Virginia NAACP is asking Virginians to contact Gov. Northam with the following request, personalized as you see fit:

I write today to ask that you use the authority granted to your office to call a special session of the Virginia General Assembly to pass House Bill 2045, sponsored by Del. Jeff Bourne, to finally end qualified immunity for law enforcement officers in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

HB 2045 would give Virginians harmed by police misconduct the right to bring a civil action in state court to hold the police officer accountable for the harm caused by that officer.  The police officer would not be allowed to claim the defense of qualified immunity to escape liability for such violations of civil rights.
